Adult Therapy and Social Work

The Adult Therapy and Social Work Service (AT&SWS) consists of professionals from the disciplines of Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Pathology and Social Work.

They work in a coordinated team to address clients' needs and provide a consultation role for agencies.

Each client’s situation may require the input of one or more of these team members, depending on their individual circumstances.

Services Provided

Physiotherapy
Physiotherapists aim to maintain their clients’ optimal mobility, to enable clients to become as independent as possible.

Social Work
Social Workers support clients to develop their social, emotional and personal well being.

Speech Pathology
Speech Pathologists promote development of communication, and assist with mealtime support issues.

Occupational Therapy
Occupational Therapists aim to increase the level of independence and the range of choices available to clients. To do this they assess, prescribe equipment, provide training and document how clients wish to be assisted.

Eligibility

Eligibility for assistance is determined by whether this service is the most appropriate organisation to respond to a particular need. There may be other organisations better suited to supporting the person in their particular situation.

The Cerebral Palsy League of Queensland receives some Health Department funding for health related therapy services and League funding to support clients in receipt of funded services provided by the organisation. Other referrals, related to the provision of services provided by another organisation, may be seen on a fee for service basis to that organisation.

Referrals

Referrals to this service can be made by anyone. The only information required is the person’s name, address, details of their particular disability, and an outline of their specific needs.

Upon receipt of this information, a team member will then contact the person (or their family/carer as appropriate) to discuss the matter further. Eligibility will be determined during discussions within the team. The person will then be notified and placed on the waiting list for assistance, if eligible for services.
