C&FSS - North Queensland

Child and Family Support Services – North Queensland is committed to the provision of support to children and young people 0-18 years of age with cerebral palsy and related conditions, and their families, living in the area.

The service relies upon volunteers to deliver practical assistance and actively encourage the broader community and corporate sector to become more aware and involved in disability issues. Especially those issues significantly affecting children and young people, and their families / carers.

Services Provided

As this service does not receive any direct government funding, there is a strong reliance on volunteer fundraising activities, donations, sponsorships and other grants to provide the following:

  • Information and library services
  • Parent / guardian resource kits
  • Resources and self-help skills development
  • Equipment library - a collection of specialised aids and equipment available for trial or hire
  • Community education / awareness activities
  • Special projects / activities that promote inclusion within the community
  • Special interest group activities

Access to other League Services

  • State Wide Outreach Therapy Service (SWOTS)
  • Specialised library service
  • Equipment Technology Service
  • Newsletters / magazines / publications

Parent / Guardian Information

The service responds to the needs of parents and carers for information, and aims to ensure that all the necessary information is made available as early as possible after diagnosis, and continues to be available throughout the child’s development. Information is also provided about other important support services and agencies within the community.

Equipment

The League established an equipment library in the Townsville region in 2003, assisted through the fundraising efforts of Thiess Construction and local families.

CFSS-NQ will also assist families to identify other sources from which equipment, or funding for equipment, may be obtained.
