Camp Have A Chat

Camp Have A Chat seeks to bring together young Queenslanders who are learning to communicate with symbols and/or communication devices.

A three day/night experience of dramatic and visual arts provides the opportunity to explore creativity, personality and increase motivation to communicate.

Camp Have A Chat employs experienced community artists to create an atmosphere that enables participants to explore their world and their talents. Camp activities are scripted and symbolised prior to the Camp. This gives a context for conversation and news-telling.

The Camp culminates in a light hearted theatrical performance which is videoed for participants to show family and friends on their return home.

The Camp offers opportunities for interested people to attend and be actively involved with the students, providing the following benefits:

Students: Enjoying exploring and expressing their creativity and personality through the dramatic and visual arts and meeting other students learning to communicate by alternative means.

Parents: Becoming more confident about how to promote their child’s ability to communicate.

Professionals: Gaining valuable experience and skills in the field of augmentative communication.

Support Workers are employed by the organisers to assist families with the personal needs of their child while at Camp. This allows the family members to more fully participate in and benefit from the Camp program.

If you and your child would like to attend Camp Have A Chat, please contact the Coordinator. A committee selects the group of students who attend the Camp.
