How does TFL work?

The League aims to build a fantastic library of computer hardware and software options for children with cerebral palsy to trial via both portable and stationary systems. These systems can then be trialled in the home, at school or at centre based services. Having a range of technology software and hardware from both the mainstream and specialist disability market, will achieve the best possible outcomes for children and young people with cerebral palsy. The project has been divided into two stages:

Stage One

Our initial aim is to set up five desktop computers with the necessary hardware and software to support alternative access for children and young people with cerebral palsy. These computers will be used to trial and determine the best method of computer use for children and young people with cerebral palsy.

The five computers will be based at the following Child and Family Support Services:

  • Chermside
  • Mt Gravatt
  • Ipswich

Services from these centres support the Brisbane Metropolitan, Redland, Logan and Ipswich regions. There are currently 770 children and young people receiving a service from these CPLQ service centres. An additional 100 children and their families (from the Mt Isa, Cairns and Townsville regions) could also access the library when they travel to Brisbane.

STAGE TWO

In stage two we will be using laptops to expand the service into regional Queensland. The Technology for Life project will then impact on over 1400 children, young people and their families who receive support from the League throughout the state.
