Picnic a popular people-pleaser

August 02, 2011

More than 5000 people enjoyed some fun in the sun at the Cerebral Palsy League’s 2011 Picnic in the Park presented by Treasury Hotel & Casino.

Roma Street Parkland was transformed into an all-abilities oasis for families and friends looking for some excitement on a sunny Saturday in Brisbane. On the main stage, performances by Dreadlock Cowboy, Lorin Nicholson, Cascades, Francesca de Valence and the Australian Army Band-Brisbane kept the crowds entertained throughout the day.

A celebrity cook-off saw MasterChef contestant and winemaker John Hughes team-up with Erik Paartalu (Brisbane Roar) Jo Henderson (and 97.3FM) to compete against Treasury Hotel & Casino’s assistant sous chef Linda Swanson and her team of Ray Smith (Brisbane Lord Mayoral candidate and CPL Ambassador) and Chris Scott (Paralympic gold medal cyclist and CPL Ambassador). It was a close competition but John’s team claimed the victory with their delicious dish of Moroccan-spiced lamb.

In the Picnic in the Park Soccer Tournament, Parsons Brinckerhoff won the cup after defeating CPL, Brisbane Paralympic Football Program, Hesta Super Fund, Super Retail Group and Westpac.
