Innovative art techniques

In an Australian first artists from Cascade Services’ Artel Arts program have replaced traditional painting techniques with stencils, modified therapy devices and rags combined with bamboo sticks.

The 23 Queensland artists who participate in the program have helped develop the innovative techniques to overcome physical difficulties caused by cerebral palsy and other disabilities.

These techniques have enabled the artists – many who are unable to easily talk or write – to express themselves independently and freely via art for the very first time.

Arts Coordinator Louise Taylor, has been instrumental in developing the new techniques that artists, like Sara Wyatt, use to create there artwork.

Cascade Services is an initiative of the Cerebral Palsy League of Queensland that offers day services and art programs for Queenslanders with a disability.

Sara will join some 30 other well-known and talented Queensland artists to enter her latest artwork in the upcoming Art for Art’s Sake fundraiser exhibition in Brisbane, scheduled 19-28 May at Waterfront Place.

Art for Art’s Sake is an annual art exhibition and charity auction to raise funds for the Cerebral Palsy League of Queensland.
