Laptop Appeal
Springfield businesses are being urged to support an appeal that will boost the life skills and day-to-day living standards of local residents with a disability.
The Cerebral Palsy League is calling on local businesses to sponsor an appeal to purchase a laptop computer and digital projector, valued at up to $3000, for the Springfield Day and Community Access Service.
Currently the service has one desktop computer that is shared between twenty Springfield clients with cerebral palsy, which is a physical disability that affects movement and posture.
One resident set to benefit from the laptop appeal is 19-year-old Nikki Portland who will gain improved access to new social networking opportunities – something that can be limited by her physical disability.
“A laptop provides flexibility and enables people like Nikki, who are in a wheelchair, to use a computer,” said Pedro Guillen-Cordon, Manager for the League’s Springfield Day and Community Access Service.
“This opens up a whole new world of social networking and a vital new avenue of communication for people with a disability.
“The laptop and projector would also facilitate the delivery of programs relating computer skills, health and nutrition and other life skills,” he said.
The League is also planning a “Cent Auction” on Sunday, 4 May at the Brothers Leagues Club, Wildey Street in Raceview, to raise funds for this appeal.
