Soft toys for sick kids

On Thursday 3 December clients of the CPL's Springfield Space donated 40 hand-crafted teddy bears and soft toys to the local Queensland Ambulance Service - just in time for Christmas.

The teddy bears and soft toys have been hand-crafted as part of Springfield Space’s arts and craft program by clients who have physical disabilities and live in the Springfield and surrounding areas.

The donation coincides with International Day of People with Disability (3 December) which aims to raise awareness of the contributions and achievements of people with disabilities.

Springfield Space Manager, Pedro Guillen-Cordon, said over 40 soft toys have been produced by the clients over the past year.

“International Day of People with Disability is the perfect day to present these soft toys to the Ambulance services as they not only represent the talent and ability of our clients but their willingness to give back to the community,” Mr Guillen-Cordon said.

QAS Assistant Commissioner for South Eastern Region Jayne Barnes said the soft toys would greatly assist QAS to put a smile on sick kids’ faces and recognise little heroes who perform acts of bravery.

“We are extremely grateful to Springfield Space for their kind donation, there is no doubt they will bring great comfort to our local kids in what can be trying circumstances,” Mrs Barnes said.

Springfield Space offers a variety of programs based around community involvement that explore the interests and personal development of individual.
