CPL’s allied health team is committed to delivering a holistic, integrated approach to therapy services for children, families and adults with a physical disability at home, at school, at work and in the community.
CPL Allied Health staff have specialist knowledge and skill in providing support to people with cerebral palsy and related physical disabilities.
CPL offers a broad range of specialised Allied Health services which are available in both a funded and fee for service capacity. Available CPL Allied Health Services include:
Occupational Therapy
Occupational therapists assist individuals to reach and maintain their highest level of functioning and maximise their independence in all activities of daily living including self care, work, recreation, social interaction and community access.
Physiotherapy
Physiotherapists assist individuals to maximise gross motor function through assessment, provision of therapy and the prescription of equipment (e.g. mobility aids and/or orthoses and splints to support body structure and function) for enhanced activity and participation in all environments.
Psychology
Psychologists focus on each individual’s development, and their aspirations across their life. To assist with this, Psychologists provide a range of services including: assessment (cognitive, educational and adaptive assessments); counselling; behaviour management, parenting support, and participation in interdisciplinary therapy programs.
Social Work
Social Workers aim to enhance the quality of life and help develop the full potential of individuals and families through information provision, advocacy, counselling and support in a variety of areas including community resources and supports, managing the impact of disability throughout the life stage and interpersonal relationships.
Speech Pathology
Speech Pathologists provide assessment and support to facilitate an individual’s communication to enable maximal participation in daily activities and environments. Communication involves both reception and expression for all modes including speech, augmentative and alternative communication, and literacy. Speech Pathologists also assess and support an individual’s eating, drinking and swallowing skills to improve overall development, health and well being.
Specialist Assessment
Mylestones Employment offer specialist Occupational Therapy and Psychology assessment services to assist Job Capacity Assessors. Mylestones Employment also offers specialist Occupational Therapy driver assessment and rehabilitation services to people with a medical condition or injury impacting upon their ability to drive safely.
Assistive Technology Support
Assistive technology is specialised equipment that enhances an individual’s participation and independence in their daily lives (e.g. speech generating devices, computers, environmental control units, powered mobility, specialised seating, communication books, Hart Walkers, mounting options, switches and alternate access). The Assistive Technology Support Service is a dedicated team of allied health professionals who specialise in assistive technology to support people with cerebral palsy and related disabilities to enhance their participation in a variety of activities throughout their life. Diet and Nutrition
Dieticians assess nutritional status and indicators of nutritional risk for people with cerebral palsy to improve a range of health outcomes involving: maintaining a healthy body composition, preventing nutrient imbalances, improving digestion and elimination processes and using person centre discussions to establish a diet plan which satisfies physical and emotional wellbeing.
Health Liaison
Health Liaison Officers provide assistance with health care assessment and planning to people with disabilities and complex health care needs residing in the community. This is supported with participation in training and health education to clients and Personal Care Assistants.
